I am looking to lay new floorboards directly on to joists in one of my rooms.

The feel of the tongue and groove stuff doesnt feel too sturdy, although I am sure they do the job, but also, I am looking for something wider than your standard t&g floorboard

I have found Redwood PAR in 3 metre lengths in the sort of width we want and in 25mm depth.

Is this a suitable type of wood for using for floorboards?
It is certainly deep enough to hold the weight, but I know nothing else about the type of wood it is.
Any help????

Redwood will be better than the fast grown whitewoods that cheap shed floorboards are made from.

Are you sure about the 25mm thickness, is that the finished size or nominal, if nominal it will end up about 19mm once prepared.

Hi Graeme.

How wide apart are the joists? It's normally recommended that they are not further apart then 30 - 35 cm heart-to-heart if you want to install floorboards.
The product you found is that Parawood (or Hevea, or rubberwood?) If so, it's one of the softest hardwood types.
19 - 21mm thick solid flooring is load bearing, depending on the width of the boards, we wouldn't recommend any boards smaller then 110mm wide.

WoodYouLike, Redwood (pinus sylvestris)is a softwood not a hardwood. Commonly known as Scots Pine, but also marketed and sold as European Redwood or Redwood, often prefixed with its country of origin usually Sweden or Finland.

Thanks Jason.
Never to old to learn something new ;))

Specialy English terminology on wooden flooring (I'm Dutch, don't hold it against me, please ;))
