Is it correct that you can no longer use the armouring of SWA cable as an earthing conductor? Even though it has got to be earthed? :?

you can use the steel Armouring on the cable, but the glands must be made properly and be water tight, why so many questions?

Forget the CAPITAL letters "b-a-s" Can you answer my question? :?

Thank you for your answer "supersparks" :) The reason i asked the question was because in my last job we had to run a seperate single core earth with all the SWA Cables, As we where not allowed to use the armouring as an earthing conductor, Even though it had to be earthed, I could not find anything in BS7671 to back this up, So i thought you nice people could throw some light on the subject? Cable sizes varied from 16mm2 to 300mm2 4 core SWA

thats cos with 300mm2 the csa of the amoring would not be large enough....you can find the table in the regs someware...i think :?

We also had to install seperate earth conductors with 16mm2, And larger SWA Cables :?

thats odd :? probrably just being over carefull, is a good idea though if water did get into one of the glands the resistance would go up, puttin an extra 16mm would also give you a very low resistance to earth
