tapping radiator

oilman, thanks for your advice have tried padding the pipes to no help. it sounds like a little man sat in the middle of the rad tapping it with a small metal hammer ! after the pipes have heated up for a couple of hours it doesnt tap at all, only from a cold start on a morning.
also its an oldish rad in one bedroom onlt that is tapping and the pipes that supply it. any more ideas ?the wife dont want the heat on all night either.
 
sounds like the rads just expanding cant think what to do the prevent that sorry
