Hi all you clever clogs out there!!!!
Wondered if someone could help me. I've got a laptop and if my finger goes over the edge of the touchpad it jumps backwards and forwards a page. How can I get rid of this please as it is driving me insane.

    i bet it doesnt.

the question was what is the operating system, not what box of poop have you got.

the operating system is what makes it ................well operate.

i.e windows, linux , but which version?

Seems a bit unnecessary, it is conceivable that the OP wasn't sure of the term "operating system".

I wonder in how many of your 20000+ posts you've managed to make a condescending comment

On the task bar by the clock is there a little icon resembling a touch pad? If you double click this it should open a window where you can change the preferences.

Also click Start, then control panel, see if you have a touchpad icon where you can alter its settings.

Yes it does have a little icon and it asks if you either want the touch pad on or off. I'm having problems with the edges of the touchpad. I think I'll shut up soon.

the right hand side of the pad is so you can scroll and stuff.
Can change the settings in control panel (ie turn it off like i have!)

if anyone knows how to turn off the mouse click on the pad let me know as it's doing my head in!!!!!

Hi, I had that trouble with my laptop, damn annoying so I went into the pointing devices and turned the pad off and now use a wireless mouse, much better.

Not answering the question, for which I apologise, but have you considered buying one of those tiny laptop mice. IMHO they make life so much easier than a touch pad. I'm forever selecting stuff that I don't want, or inadvertently moving stuff around. Just a thought.

I have seen this problem (some might argue its a good feature such as giving the user the ability to scroll through documents) but you should definately be able to turn it off under your mouse properties in the Control Panel.

try adjusting the sensitvity if it has that option in the mouse settings, mine does strange things when im getting heavy fingered.

I still prefer my ye-olde laptops pointer knob in the middle of the keyboard.
Still got the lappy, a nice old tohiba sattellite running windows 95 on a 486, loads of ram, 16Mb!!!
