Mk2 Kuga Powershift (title edited)

FWIW I owned a Kia Ceed 1.6 Petrol with 6-speed Dual Clutch gearbox for three years (and some 20,000 miles - sold it with 31K on the clock) and the only problem was a sticky valve in reverse which was fixed under warranty. I now own a Kia Niro hybrid with a similar, if not identical gearbox. Kia's seven-year warranty means that they must be pretty sure of their engineering and build quality!

Well we've put four or five thousand miles on the new gearbox and it's still going great, Kuga passed it's MOT last week with no drama.

Was going to get rid next year but I feel quite attached to it now..
 
Well...

I've never been totally happy with how Ford programed the gearbox strategies (on either version). Could never truly make it's mind up at roundabouts (on off throttle and brakes).

Not a deal breaker but a mild annoyance.

So I've treated it to custom gearbox firmware TCU+ from DTUK. Been on the fence about it for a while and thought sod it, it's Christmas!.

What a difference!, off / on throttle transitions, braking to accelerating, setting off from a stop with the beans, all just so much better. Transformed the car.

Why Ford couldn't do the same is anyones guess.

Worst was setting off from a stop at roundabouts with 1/2 throttle, it would drop a gear then change back up; just felt wrong.

The DTUK calibration just holds the gear and sets slip rpm a bit higher, simple but very effective. No churning through the gearbox.

30 miles on it today and I'm sold, £350 for 90 seconds of reflashing but worth every penny!.

I've saved a fair few people who've been within their 30 day rejection period already on the earlier gearbox cars (what I had originally).

Put a build post up on Kuga owners club as well.

Got some videos on YouTube with a thousand views (was surprised at that!).

This thread though is where it all started so thought I'd keep it up to date.
 
Keith, John, et al, I started reading this thread by mistake, but got absorbed by it, and 90 minutes later I have reached the 'end' (for now). A great read, and an inspiration as to what can be done with common sense, some knowledge, some specialist tools, and a whole lot of determination. Well done and, what's more, even more congratulations for your painstaking documentation. It's also ironic that you should do all of that work to get your car in a fit state to tow just at a time when COVID would mean you can't use it for the caravan!:rolleyes:
