The Phone Book

'The Phone Book' was pushed through my letter box during the week. Not sure it has any value at all to me, where as once even the white pages were an fairly hefty volume, this one has so few listings, it's a slim to none chance of finding someone in there, even if I could be bothered. I guess it just includes BT subscribers? I'm not BT - Plusnet, but thought they might have included me - though I half remember going 'ex-dir' a few years ago. Yes, I did hear that Yellow Pages had come to an end.

Really, a pointless waste of paper and resources, when so few people are listed and the internet is a much more useful source. In the recycle bin it goes.

I remember paying 900+ for a small ad in Manchester South YP.

Hardly got anything off it.
Their deal included a special number that they could monitor traffic on.

Come renewal time, they were pushing another sale. When I declined, they asked why.
Of course, I answered their question with questions of my own.

"How many calls did your telephone system register?"

"Now can you see my reluctance?"

They were brazen though. For years afterwards, they would ring and ask if I wanted to repeat the ad.

Old unwanted phone books make ideal personal address books. Simply cross out the names and addresses of all the people you don't know.
