This is the report on the Bloody Sunday shootings, a farce which has gone on for 12 years at a cost of £191millon, due our any day now. The time and cost of the inquiry has been ludicrous. The law firm employed by Saville has made £13m and Mr Justice Clark has personally made £4M. A paper copy of the report will set you back £549.

The reason for this, if you want to be cynical, is because Blair agreed to this inquiry because it was one of the key demands of the IRA in return for disarming. Blair didnt actually WANT it to come to any conclusions and report, so there was almost certainly a nod of the head agreement with Saville to make sure it took many years until Blair was well clear of the affair.

There also speculation the report will accuse British soldiers of murder, and attempt to put on trial members of the Parachute Regiment, now in there 60's. I think it extremely unlikely the Tory government will take any notice of this report (the criticised it often in oppostion), but if there going to try British soldiers, then presumably and in the interests of fairness i would hope they would also try Gerry Adams and Martin McGuiness, who are by any reckoning, murderers as well.

This is the third inquiry i believe, and the most costly to date. so what was the point of it all apart from an endless gravy train for lawyers, there have been far worse events in Ireland so why aren't we spending millions enquiring into them.

Adams is a hypocrite when he says the "public" has a right to know what happened ect, this is from a man who covered up for his paedophile brother who is now being extradited form the Irish Republic to face charges of raping his own children.

No British government would ever contemplate prosecuting any British soldier involved the so called "bloody Sunday" affair because if they did they would be kicked out office by the British people, politicians may be cynical but they are also self serving so they will probably talk a load of crap, the IRA and Sinn fein will get their little book of anti british cliches out and start shouting about another "British coverup" blah, blah "whitewash"blah blah"we want another enquiry" blah blah, and then the cycle of agitation will begin again and the lawyers will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of another gravytrain for them to climb aboard.

Maybe its time to set up an enquiry to find the bombers behind the Warrington bombs which left two young children dead, the Birmingham bombings ,the Guildford bombings. Sinn Fein should be told you give us the names responsible for these atrocitys which will lead to a succesful trial and conviction and maybe a deal can be done, until then go whistle in the wind.

This enquiry was about politics and money it had nothing to do with justice, mc guiness was head of the IRA in Londonderry at the time of the shootings, witnesses have stated that his mob started the shooting and some of those who were shot had been carrying weapons which were removed by members of the IRA, so much for a peaceful protest,

Blair has blood on his hands, what about the 40 British soldiers that were murdered leading up to Bogside shootings and the 7 people killed at Aldershot in a revenge attack against the paras by the IRA scum.
Why would anyone give these murdering basterds time of day, Mcguiness was there to bomb the city centre, I have no doubt innocent people got killed that day but many were there to stir trouble, the people killed broke rank from the original protest. Some were alledged to have strong links to the IRA and carrying guns and nail bombs and that's what they do/did, eyewitness reports say otherwise, but they were bias reports.
I know if was soldier and have been given order to fire that's what I would have done.
Where was the compassion at Manchester, Warrington, Omagh, Canary Wharf, Aldershot the list can go on and on.......
    They are dirty murdering basturds.

I don't think this report will tell us anything we don't already know and thik how many hospitals/schools etc that money could have built in Northern Ireland for the future children.

If any Paras charged then McGuinness and his scumbag pals need to be charged with a few murders throughout the years and inquiries into those already mentioned and Enniskillen

To my friends murdered throughout the years by these scumbags

    RIP

Your right we will find nothing out, that we didn't not already know.
All this is doing is opening up old wounds, it's a massive waste of money, the investigation ended 6 years ago, it's taken 6 years to write it up, the overall cost has near on doubled.

What really gets me is the fact that, anyone killed in NI by British troops, got a public enquiry into the circumstances surrounding their death. A British soldier serving in NI killed by the IRA was never afforded an inquiry. All they got was a normal coroners inquest.

Your all quite correct though, we will learn nothing new from the report. It will probably be cried down by Sinn Fein and another inquiry ordered.

I wondered why this thread had gone quiet given many of the contributions above... ;)

A lot certainly was learned, but above all they were innocent!

And how much did 'bloody sunday' affect the next decades of violence?

Nothing changes though, since we still have the army/police cover-ups, and all that does is further undermine the system...

£195 million quid for a report on an incident that lasted 30 minutes? That's obscene. Why so much and why so long?

But if they'd done it right in the first place... ;)

And I just wonder what value you'd put on the life of a close relative, let alone 14?

because Blair promised the IRA one as part of his surrender to them, but then told the civil servants to bury it for 15 years.

Just because the Saville report says they were innocent, doesn't mean that they actually were innocent.
The report was always going to find against the troops and David Cameron has fallen into the trap of apologising for something he could never be responsible for ( in an attempt to placate the seething murderers of the IRA).
How long are governments going to have to apologise for things that happened years ago?
Brown or Blair apologised for the slave trade, What next? Israel apologising for the crucifixion? Cain apologising for killing Abel?

Pointless apologies that mean absolutely nothing.

too right. I also hate the history revisionists, the people who try and warp history to another point of view that suits them more, even when they wernt even born then. The tossers that whine about the area bombing of Dresden, for example.
