We have a combi boiler and there are thermostatic valves on all radiators except one. The heating appears to run constantly to this one rad even when all the others have closed off at their set temperature. Surely the combi will never shut off as long as one radiator remains open and effectively demanding heat. Should all radiators have a thermostatic valve.

u should set ur room stat lower ! so u dont have to rely on ur trv's
the trv's cant tell the boiler to shut off...the room stat can

Thanks for the reply, but there is no room stat on our conbi boiler system, just the thermostatic valves on the radiators, except the one. The question is should all rads have a thermostatic valve, since the opening action appears to be what starts the boiler and the fact that one is permanently open appears to cause the heating to run continuously.

If there is no bypass fitted you need to allow one radiator with no trvs and with both lockshields.

...second that...

If they all shut off and the pump is still running, guess what happens next! The thermost valves don't tell the pump to shut off hence the need for at least one to remain open, or something will 'blow'.

If you had a towel rail connected the the central heating that could be the one you leave open...

You definately need a thermostat - or even better - a programmable one so you can set different temperatures and times for the morning, evening and weekends.

It will pay for itself in a year or so; As you've noticed yourself, you are overheating.
