I am replacing my old tired lino in the kitchen with ceramic tiles. I have got the lino up fairly easily but I still have the old adhesive on the floor.

I have been told by a local builder that I can just tile directly onto the old adhesive but I'm not convinced this is true.

Do I need to remove the old lino adhesive?

Do I need to PVA before the tiling?

Do I need to do both the above?

What is the sub floor construction ? screed over concrete, floor boards on joists, etc.
