Hi,

I am trying to fit a new toilet into a bathroom, but I can't connect the soil pipe. Here's the problem:

The soil pipe is raised 6cm from the floor. The base of the ceramic connector on the toilet is 15cm high- so the connection needs to drop 9cm. The toilet is designed to fit flush (no pun intended) against the wall, which means the ceramic soil pipe connector on the toilet ends only 9cm from where the wall will be. (Not sure if it's relevant, but the ceramic tube is 7cm long).

I have tried a concertina type flexible connection, but it is too long, although it makes the drop easily enough, so the toilet will not fit against the wall.

oh, and the wall is tiled, so moving the pipe in the wall is a no go.

So, anyone know how I can drop 9cm at a 45 degree angle?

Many thanks in anticipation.

You will need to bring the cistern & pan off the wall using 3 or 4 x 2 timber then use a flexi connector or whatever you can get to fit..then tile around timber to hide it

Thanks for the reply- is there nothing I can do to keep the toilet against the existing back wall?

At the time you wrote this post I was fitting a 'duravit' flush fitting wc. I had to cut the soilpipe closer to the wall to stop the flexi adapter from 'being too long' Chance in a thousand, but that could be an answer bearing in mind I cant see what you have to work with there.

Heres the rest of my current thoughts on it : -

I wont guarantee that you will be able to do this now but about 4 years ago I had a similar sort of job where the flexi was too long. This time it involved a very sharp bend. The one I bought at the time from B&Q I managed to cut it shorter and re-assemble it.

If that seems out of the question then I suppose you may have to consider re-hashing your soil pipe so that it protrudes at the right level.

Another idea which we used to do years ago :- They changed the standard outlet height from 9 1/2 " centre to 7 1/2" so we used to build a wooden plinth on which to sit the toilet pan. With the standards expected these days you can't get away with that like you used to.

Multikwik do make an adapter that has an offset outlet that may be of some help

Google 'pan connector' and see what you can find

Thanks for the input- I think we might be onto something!

All the flexible hoses I have seen are just too long- do you think it would be possible to cut one down and rejoin it securely?

The other possibility is a 40mm offset connector:

Do you think I could connect 2 of these together, or would 1 drop it enough that a normal pipe with some flexibility would work?

heres a trick for you use a empty cement or plaster bag, works well on building sites.

Just another thought:

Does anyone know of a manufacturer/stockist of a pipe with more than a 40mm offset?

Cheers

You could join 2 together but will probably find that you need a piece of soilpipe at least 2½ or 3" long to get the two together properly That will get you 8cm and you should get away with the other 1cm.
