Hi im new to this forum and it looks great!

basically i have a confier tree at the back of my garden. Its about 8 feet or so and its all out of shape and looks like it needs a trim. The thing is i have no idea how to. My next door neighbour said to just cut the top of it and trim it like a hedge but it must be more difficult than that?

Iv had a look in the conifer and inside its very brown im just worried if i trim it, the tree will look brown and unpleasent looking

any advice?

Many thanks

If you cut it back to the brown bits it will stay brown. All they ever to is grow to sixty feet and fall over. Mine were sixty feet before the storm!
The best thing to do with it is chop it down and get a proper tree.

Trim it back to about a foot below ground level !!

I recently did this with 10 x 40 foot conifers and the results were spectacular.

I also had a 6 foot one that was turning brown inside, trinmming only made it uglier - cut down was also the answer there.
