Alas I've found this forum too late ! I've had our last tumble drier sat in the garage for ages whilst I tried to repair it. I eventually gave up and bought a new one - an AEG (almost irons the clothes for you !). Anyway before taking the old appliance to the skip I wanted to make sure it couldn't be salvaged (my bro needs one). I think the problem was down to the heater (which can be replaced for about £40). The machine still works just no heat and when you look at it the heater is obviously dead. I suspect the original failure was due to the heat exchanger being clogged
(my wife just can't be trained to do the basic maintenance on these things ...I do it all myself now its much cheaper in the long run !).

Anyway is it likely that anything else may have been damaged or will a new heater solve the problem ?

Get your multimeter out and check for continuity through the thermostats. More likely they've tripped.

Unplug your appliance before working on it.
