Hi

I don't expect any miracle here as I am not a great wealth of knowledge on windows and the gubbins that make them work......but.....

I have a UPVC window (open & tilt) and the lock mechanism on the handle is stuck meaning I can't close the window.

The screws / bolts that are supposed to slide up and down into the actual window seem to be stuck, and if I give it to much pressure on the handle it feels like the whole thing is going to explode.

My only option ot the moment is to drill and screw the window shut to the frame, obviously not a preffered option, but tonight ....necessary

Any idea if it is an easy fix, or is a trip to Wickes for a new window imminent?

Thanks

Call a couple of local locksmiths or UPVC specialists - they will sort you out with a new mechanism. No need for a new window, or to screw it closed.

Can't you remove the handle to find out how it works.
Mine was not the same problem but by removing two screws (one which was hidden behind a rectangle made from foil) off came the handle.
There was a square sectioned rod which had worked its way forward and coming out of the square hole in the handle. a longer rod now ensures it can't happen again. When you know what causes the problem its usually easy to replace or repair
