Our 5/6 year old combi boiler has recently started playing up. When the taps are used for hot water the pump starts for the central heating system. Although the water is not beng heated the pump contiues until the boiler is turned off at the main switch. The Central heating is currently off on the boiler , at the timer and on the thermostat !

We have also devloped a leak from what I believe is the "Auto Air Release" value. The water from this leak is dripping on to the electrical switches. May this be causing the the pump to turn its self on ?

We have been told we will need a new diverter valve but as both hot water and heating are heating OK is this true ?

Any ideas welcome
Thanks

water can drip from the auto air vent onto the dhw microswitch effectively operating the switch so the boiler thinks a tap has been turned on. because a tap isn't turned on it will send the heated water to the radiators instead of the dhw heat exchanger. if it is the auto air vent leaking it is available as a spare part. if the dhw microswitch is damaged it's also available as a spare part. you only need a diverter if the diverter isn't operating or if it's leaking and even then vaillant do an excellent diverter valve service kit for half the price of the complete valve.
