Hello,
I recently varnished a cork floor with rustins water-based polyurethane varnish. I gave it alight sand beforehand with 180 grit. It had three coats and is now fully dry. Unfortunately I’ve noticed that any gentle abrasion to the surface now (like moving a chair) means that the varnish marks and starts to come away and if gently picked at, will tear away from the floor in large skin-like pieces!
Im now guessing that maybe the tiles were previously waxed and the substrate hasn’t accepted the polyurethane varnish. It should have been fully sanded back.
I suppose that the only way forward is to remove the new varnish now. Should I just sand it right back with a course paper? And then maybe try a wax varnish?
Any helpful suggestions warmly welcomed!
