ventilation in chimney breast

Hi all,
I just moved into my new house, theres a small vent in the chimney breast in the bedroom, where a gas fire used to be, can this be closed or should I leave iit open, coz the draft is terrible! :LOL:

Depends if you're not using any others fireplace that using the same chimney breast,if not can you put a new vent outside then closed the one inside.The chimney must be vented to prevent damp & smell problems...
 
You musnt close the vent. The chimney breast must be ventilated to prevent damp & condensation build up. There are other ways to ventilate the breast but it depends on how much work you want to do.
