Sorry for another 'I've inherited an alarm' thread.
I've read various veritas threads but I don't seem to be able to find an answer on how to resolve this, other than finding a local engineer.

We've got the user code, I haven't tried an engineer code.

It should all be working but this is the first time we've tried using it and it wouldn't set, so I tried a walk test.

It does 7 beeps and indeed 7 is the highest zone which is lit.

5 magnets 2pir and the PA

The PA and one of the magnets are not lit, I can confirm that when I open that door then the zone does illuminate.
Weirdly that one is the one I thought was zone 7 based on the install notes so I had taken the magnet and sensor off and wiped them... I suspect that it was lit before I did this.

I've tried giving another one a whack but that didn't resolve it.

What is the best way of troubleshooting this?
I'm not a spark but I know my way around a multimeter well enough

Make sure magnet is lined up with sensor & is within around 20mm of the sensor. Failing that open sensor & twist the two wires together to see if its the cable. Or open panel and put a short accross zone 7 wiring input to prove its not a fault on panel. 7 bleeps will indicate zone 7.

Ok thank you, all the magnets do appear to be well aligned and almost touching.

Irritatingly zone 7 is a PIR sensor, but I am guessing the others are at fault anyway as they're all lit but 1

Have you tried fully resetting system then attempt to set system. Are all these zone lights still lit? Are the PIRs lighting up?

I have not, I was too scared of setting it off with a toddler and a baby in the house!

Nothing on the PIR that I can see, I'll have a more detailed investigation ASAP

Ok so I had (literally) two minutes between screaming kids to confirm:

1- I can access it with the engineer code still
2- the PIR have no lights normally or when the walk test is activated.

I'll keep chipping away!

No lights working at all of your detectors, no 12v.

Fuse blown or cable damaged. Having / had any work done, carpet laid etc

12v had been wired into a switched live and the system had clearly not been set up properly.

All now working hunky dory thanks to my friendly local alarm engineer
