A heating engineer suggested that in general external wall mounted condensing oil boilers give more problems than a floor standing external condensing oil boiler even of same brand. He suggested this might be due to manufacturers attempting to cram the same components into a smaller space.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

In general I would tend to agree.
Certainly more difficult to service especially system boilers.
More work fitting needs 2 of you to hump it on wall.
Needs a tiger loop ( I know one make doesn't require one but they are not without problems)
System filter has to go inside building on wall hung a floor stood boiler lots of room to fit in casing.
I've recently done a comparison quote wall hung internal wall hung external or floor stood external.
Floor stood was certainly lowest price.

Really what I mean is, once an external oil boiler is installed (wall or floor), he seemed to think that wall mounted condensing heat only boilers would have more ongoing malfunctioning issues.
