Wallpapering - Can I Wallpaper over painted wallpaper

Hi

Just moved house - was wondering if there are any rules about hanging new wallpaper over previously painted older wallpaper or whether I have to strip the lot. The old wallpaper is in good condition and is painted with a matt light colour. I was going to use lining paper first before a patterned paper, but I seem to remember someone telling me you cant hang over painted old wallpaper.

Any help would be most welcome.

The only way youl find out is when its dry...and that be too late.
