How much would it cost to have 2 water hammer arresters fitted by a plumber? I don’t want to get ripped off

Well, lets say the arrestors cost £25 each, so £50 for two. You want a plumber to travel to you, drain (part of) your system, fit two arrestors, refill and test the system for £30. Doesn't sound likely to me.

Perhaps you are supplying the arrestors? Even then I can't see it being less than £150 to fit them.

Why not get a few quotes?

Wouldn’t take more than an hour surely so £30 is reasonable

Plus travel time, insurance, petrol

Plus the fact that if you don't know how to do it, you are paying for the fact that they do

Will you remove the bath panel and clear out under the sink to make the pipework accessible?
Is the water hammer from the cold tap, hot tap or both?

If it was a handyman that wouldn't have any insurance and wouldn't answer the phone when they blow off and flood the place, £30 may be at the lower end.

If you want a professional that is trained in what he is doing, will have insurance and will guarantee his work and location dependent then I would suggest a fair bit more.

If you can find a qualified and insured plumber with a good reputation to work for £30 an hour including VAT (so £25/hour before VAT) then you are doing better than me. Around here I would expect to pay about £85/hour.

I would also expect that job to take more than an hour.

Maybe a degree in metallurgy will help them solder?

I got quoted £160 not including materials so £220 if you add on the water arresters. Rip off surely

Sounds reasonable to me. If you think it's a rip off then just ask someone else to quote and see how they compare. It's always good to get more than one quote for a job.
