We live in a flat with electric heating only. Our bills are sky high, but I've noticed that we had the water heater button on always.

Is it my understanding that it doesn't need to be on and that we just need to press the Electrisaver button on for a few hours only.

Our bills are a bit high.

When you say sky high - how big is the property, how many people live in it, and what type of electric heating do you have?

Just two bed and three people. All tend to be out each day duration.

We have 1 x 2000kw electric wall heater which might be on a couple hours max.

1 in the bedroom which is 1500kw and on a couple hours.

Probably less now.

The idea of the Electrisaver, is that you press the button, it heats the water, then switches off after a time. Basically press and forget. I would expect the light to go off, or perhaps change colour, once it has timed out.

Do you mean button, or do you mean switch? The switch is supposed to be on.

The timer then heats the water when the button haa been pressed, and not otherwise

Is the tap water scalding hot?

The amount of money you pay per month need not correspond to the cost of electricity used in that month.

What is "sky high" in kWh per month?

Are the meter readings shown your your bills the same as the readings on your meter?

Are the bills estimated or actual readings? Is your account in debit or credit? What is your cost per kwh? How much are you paying each month? Underfloor heating in the hall? Bathroom?

How long have you lived in the property?

Take weekly readings is my advice
