Weeds in between block paving

Can anybody out there help me, went around my mum's house today and she has a very large block paved driveway and it is covered in weeds and thistles etc, told her i would sort it out for her, can anybody tell me what type off weedkiller is good and is there a way of preventing the weeds coming back through again????

ANy weedkiller is good, especially the ones that are "systemic" ie you spray the leaves and it gets to the roots.
You won't stop them coming back.

Sodium chlorate, but be careful where you apply it.
It can sterilise earth from 6 months to 5 years.
