On my travels yesterday, I went through the roadworks around J26 M25

Either side of the carriageway, behind the roadworks (in the field), quite long stretches of fencing has been put up.

This fencing is simply black plastic strip, about 18 ins high nailed to wooden posts.

Anyone know its purpose?

if its what i think you mean they quite often use it to break up wind gusts

I was told it's to stop small animals getting into the roadworks site.

Presumably there is no risk whatsoever of said small animals straying onto roads when there are no roadworks, so the fencing gets removed when the site is cleared.

its to denote wildlife flora and fauna protection limit, to keep clod hopping navies off it.

'Cos there nothing for them to look at if there are no roadworks taking place, hence, no need for the barriers!

are the fields on a slope?

Could be the winter snow breaks?

we have them on the hills up north in places stop the snow blowing on the roads.

It was meant to be 6' high, but it finished up at the height of only 18", due to cutbacks from the Ministry of De Fence.

Roughcaster.
