The car has steel wheels and is fitted with 215/55 R16

But the door pillar info panel says 205/60 R16

Which one is likely to be correct?

If BOTH can be used then can one size be mixed with the other?

Only just bought the car and the sale was managed by the manager of a tyre depot but unfortunately he is not responding to me messages!

Tyre numbers are... 215 is tread width, 55 is the percent of the tread width in "height", and the 16 is the diameter of the wheel.

215/55 equals 118.25mm height
205/60 equals 123mm height.

They're close enough for either to be ok, but I wouldn't mix an axle. There's every chance 215/55's are cheaper hence they're fitted.

The tyre manager has sent me his email now so I will ask him as he seems to have been involved in the maintenance.

Which would give better road holding etc.?

Tony

Yes, thats what is on the door pillar.

Seems odd though that presumably the tyre manager would put a different tyre on it as the owner has not been at all concerned by the costs of replacing parts so that's unlikely to be a reason.

Annoyingly the tyre manager has not replied to my email!

He seemed friendly enough and helpful, but them he was selling the car.

I am not blaming him but just wanting advice!
