Mine has been making a high-pitched whistle for 10 minutes or more. Occasionally it will stop for a few seconds. It is not coming from the speakers.

It is probably relevant that I am running several different scans at the moment, Defender, NAV, Ad-Awaare and Spybot, so the C-drive is working hard.

Yes I know this is not the best way to do it.

It actually has 3 hard drives, buit at the moment they all seem to be scanning on C.

I have had this noise before when doing concurrent multiple scans. It does not sound like a motor bearing, but a pure tone.

Probably a coil vibrating. It's rarely harmful, just exceedingly annoying (if you can hear it, many can't).

You could open the case and track it down, then hot glue it.

Running more than one security scan at a time is not really advised as the scanners can conflict with each other and either miss some things or show up the other scanner as an infection and try to quarantine it.
try running the scans one at a time and see if the whistling stops.
