The fireplace in my house is a large hole! ie no fireplace to speak of, just a fire grate/ basket sitting on the hearth. the hearth is at floor level and it is tiled. the grate sits very close to the solid wall between my house and the neighbours, at the back of the chimney breast. Is a very occasional fire, ie 2/3 a month going to do any major damage?

cheers

clay products lend themselves well to enduring extremes of heat.

lets hope your dividing wall is brick eh?
