Hi,

I'd like to fit an extracor fan in the vertical face of a 'lantern' recess in the kitchen ceiling. Its a new project - not even plasterboarded yet, so access is good.

I can feed the fan from either the lighting or the sockets system, and I want to be able to run the fan manually only (i.e. no timed overrun, and no 'auto-on') and if possible, i'd like to turn it on via a switch at worktop level rather than a pull cord

basically I want to operate the fan as I would a light

could anyone give me some advice as to how to achieve this?, and do I need a seperate isolator?

thanks in advance

Take it as a 3a switched fuse spur from the kitchen ring.

That way the fuse will pop locally if anything goes wrong (and won't turn off the fridge!) and you have local isolation for cleaning. I'd use a neon type switched fuse spur.
