Hi
I have painted woodchip wallpaper downstairs hallway, stairs and landing and I want it gone. Have asked for quotes and one guy is suggesting rather than stripping the woodchip, to put blue grit over it and then plaster on top. Anyone done this or have any advice? The woodchip has been up well over 30 years so I think will be a nightmare to remove.
Thanks.

I have not come across this but the wood chip can still come off the wall even if it is effectively plastered smooth. Ripping the wood chip and applying steam will get it removed, if you can’t do that yourself, get another deccie to quote. There is a lot of extra work though.

Depends on who put the stuff on the wall originally
I had to remove woodchip in an old Victorian terraced place years ago
It had been applied with nuclear war in mind.
I gently used a steamer to try to loosen at the seams.
No joy -a little more steam and a lot less movement and eventually POP!
The plaster blew off the wall.
And even then the woodchip held it in place.
I should have left it alone
That grit may or may not be a better idea.
Horses for courses.

We had a room much like that, Gritted it and skimmed, 12 years on there's been no issues.

Just need to make sure it is all very well stuck, and remove any areas that arent.

Ours seemed to have been applied direct to new plasterboard, so was basically part of the board
