I want to create an arch effect over my bath and down the front of the bath to the floor. What wood is suitable for use in a bathroom, bearing in mind it might get wet but hopefully not soaked as the lower down part will have to be tiled.

I would think any decent quality wood could be used so long as it's treated properly. Yaught varnish (yes it is used on boats) is ideal for fully waterproofing wood. A lot more expensive than your average varnish and if used as per the tins instructions its guaranteed for 5 years. B&Q stock it and try to refrain from buying the cheaper option (there's a few on the market) if you want the comprehensive result.
