Our ceilings are covered in lovely woodchip paper.......whats the best way to remove it?

The first question is, how old is the property?

It may well be the paper was put up to cover all kinds of cracks and blemishes.

The common way to overcome this nowadays seems to be to plasterboard over and skim.

Though you may not want to pay for a plasterer.

I've always found scraping off the bobbly bits and soaking does the trick, if you keep wetting and scoring through the paint.

If you have lath and plaster ceilings the plaster may become loose.

Neckache, neckache, neckache springs to mind...

Steamstripper left in the room for half an hour with doors and windows shut. Yhis will soften paint and allow some peeling hopefully. Then free off as much loose as possible and start to steam and peel. Don't keep the steam stripper against the paper for too long or you can split the plaster skim off. No 'easy' way I'm afraid, just easier.

It's only fashion, isn't it? Thousands of people put up woodchip and they weren't wrong - it just became fashionable to mock it. I have quite a nostalgic affection for it (though I don't have any in my house and am not tempted to buy any). I noticed it was available in the Toolstation catalogue...
