Hello all,

I want to pull a light wire through an extremely narrow wall space in between two wooden studs. There is about 15mm width (but +100mm depth) and to make matters worse, there are already 3 cables going through this space. And to make it even more challenging, the cable I want to run is a 3core+cpc, so wider than standard 2core+cpc lighting. Most of the wall is closed, so no way of fitting any PVC trunking retrospectively and no way of pulling out existing cables to redo everything. This run is not 100% necessary, but it would avoid use of another JB buried in the floor or an alternatively much longer cable run...

I think most of the friction simply comes from the cables rubbing against each other while pulling. Has anyone ever tried yellow77 or can recommend any other cable lubricant alternative? Something that does not impact the sheathing of the cables (or the wooden studs it eventually comes in contact with). Yellow77 only comes in large quantities so bit if a waste for the small amount I would use.

Thanks.

Yes used Yellow 77 a lot, and yes it is very good, stops cable burns when pulling them through, did use washing up liquid, but we were stopped, as it seems it is petroleum based, and once the water has evaporated it is a fire risk, so had to move to using Yellow 77 to comply with health and safety, although I don't know of any cases where there has been a fire due to using washing up liquid.

I vaguely recall a previous question on here about this, with one of the answers being “personal lubricant”. It’s certainly available in small quantities!

I ended up using a small bit of washing up liquid, wow what a difference it made! Thanks all.

This is why the RF option is such a good idea in finished properties
'Wireless' (anything, including 'WiFi) can certainly be convenient, with little/no effort needed to install, but I personally think that, wherever possible, wired communications are always preferable - and that is probably going to become increasingly moire the case as the airwaves become increasingly cluttered with all the new-fangled 'wireless' stuff!

Talc/french chalk, or candle wax.
