Zanussi DWS 949 - Inlet Valve problem

Hi, my old Zanussi DWS 949 is working periodically after replacing the inlet valve and solenoid. Every 4 or so washes I have to pull the unit out, switch off the water, disconnect the hose and remove the small anti syphon hose / vac hose from the solenoid and replace to get it to work.

Done this about 15 times now and its wrecking the kitchen floor.
How is this vac / anti syphon device supposed to work and what could be causing this problem??

- Needless to say it only happens when we have people to stay and lots of washing up inside the machine.
