Jeremy Bowen said the destruction in Gaza reminded him of Allepo when Assad (and the Russians) inflicted devastation on his own population / people

And that’s not mentioning the chemical weapons he / they used ???

At times of great upheaval in Palestine, people start to talk about Marwan Barghouti. The 64-year-old political leader serving multiple life sentences in an Israeli prison for murder represents the prospect of a genuine shake-up to the status quo...Virtually every opinion poll since his imprisonment two decades ago shows Barghouti to be the favourite presidential candidate for the Palestinian people, were they able to hold free elections. A December survey showed him 40 points ahead of the deeply unpopular current leader Mahmoud Abbas but also beating Hamas candidates, including the Islamist militant group’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh.

The Russian Federation has contributed US$ 2 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in support of its core programmes and services, including education for over 500,000 children, quality primary health care for over 3.5 million patients and assistance for over 250,000 acutely vulnerable refugees. This contribution represents the first installment of a multi-year agreement that will see the Russian Federation contributing US$ 2 million per annum from 2017-2021, ensuring a predictable source of funding for the Agency’s human development and humanitarian interventions.

“We are deeply grateful for this generous contribution from the government and people of Russia, who have committed through this multi-year agreement to engage in a sustained partnership with UNRWA, in support of Palestine refugees across the region,” said UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl. “Russia’s commitment to the mandate of the Agency is an important reminder that support to Palestine refugees is a global responsibility".

This contribution comes shortly after the Commissioner-General’s visit to Moscow in early April, during which he met with senior Russian officials, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail L. Bogdanov, to shed light on the humanitarian situation in the region and the crucial needs of Palestine refugees.

The partnership between UNRWA and Russia has deepened in recent years; since 2013, Russia has contributed US$ 4 million to UNRWA for the Agency’s core programmes and services.

Marwan Hasib Ibrahim Barghouti (also transliterated al-Barghuthi; Arabic: مروان حسيب ابراهيم البرغوثي; born 6 June 1959) is a Palestinian political figure convicted and imprisoned for murder by an Israeli court.[1] He is regarded as a leader of the First and Second Intifadas. Barghouti at one time supported the peace process, but later became disillusioned, and after 2000 went on to become a leader of the Second Intifada from the West Bank.[1][2] Barghouti was a leader of Tanzim, a paramilitary offshoot of Fatah.[3]

Someone that tried and gave up as peace didn't achieve what it should have. It relates to why groups like HAMAS and others crop up. He probably relates to why some are saying this must really be settled this time to avoid similar problems in the future. Don't forget there was a peace process PLO terrorists etc.

It seems Blinken is telling Israel that there is now an opportunity for them to have truly friendly relationships with it's neighbours and that these are ready for it. I wonder what the conditions are. The mind boggles.

Starmer has extended his must be a 2 state solution to include calls for a ceasefire.

LOL Had the EU on my mind. Their security meeting is tomorrow. UN - rumoured that the ceasefire vote with be on Tuesday. Seems the US has already said veto. That one was started by an Arab group. Didn't appear to have any major players in it other than the Pres,,? of Palestine or their rep.

...expect more resolutions against Israel.

Because Israel is a racist regime, running an Apartheid state, and determined to press on with its policy of genocide and invasion.

No wonder it garners criticism.

Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz has warned that unless Hamas frees all hostages held in Gaza by 10 March an offensive will be launched in Rafah.

That date is the beginning of Ramadan, so Hamas will have to fight on empty stomachs from then on...oh wait, they already are.

Palestine has vast amounts of natural gas. It should be a prosperous nation.

Instead it is a pauper as a result of Israel's racist regime.

Israel prevents it developing its gas fields

Israel wants to depopulate Gaza and steal the gas like they steal the drinking water.

Is it any surprise that USA is helping?

Israel's supporters pretend they have justification from a god.

Filly pretends that genocide is permissible.

Motorbiking pretends that anyone opposed to genocide is antisemitic.

Israel gives nod to Gaza Marine gas development, wants security assurances

JERUSALEM, June 18 (Reuters) - Israel gave preliminary approval for the development of a gas field off the Gaza Strip on Sunday while saying it would require security coordination with the Palestinian Authority and neighbouring Egypt.
If concluded, the agreement would be a boost for the cash-strapped Palestinian economy.
Announcing the move on the Gaza Marine project, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said progress would hinge on "preserving the State of Israel's security and diplomatic needs".

While Egypt and Israel have been producing gas in the eastern Mediterranean for years, the Gaza Marine field, about 30 km (20 miles) off the Gaza coast, has remained undeveloped due to political disputes and conflict with Israel, as well as economic factors.
Gaza Marine is estimated to hold over 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, much more than is needed to power the Palestinian territories and some of which could potentially be exported.

The Palestinian Authority did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"We are waiting to know what exactly the Israelis have agreed to in details. We can’t make a position based on a statement to the media," one Palestinian official told Reuters.
Hamas official Ismail Rudwan told Reuters: "We reaffirm that our people in Gaza have the rights to their natural resources."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announces that Israel will work to develop a natural gas field off the coast of the Gaza Strip, a proposal that has been repeatedly floated for more than two decades.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office declares that as part of a “framework of existing efforts” between Israel, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority, the government is moving forward with developing the “Gaza Marine gas field off the coast of Gaza.”

The move is seen as a olive branch to the Palestinians and, if carried out, is expected to bring in billions of shekels to the PA. The Prime Minister’s Office says it’s pursuing the plan with an emphasis “on Palestinian economic development and maintaining security stability in the region.”

The statement says that the project is “subject to coordination between the security services and direct dialogue with Egypt, in coordination with the PA.”

You didn't mention that Israel wants to control the contract, and pocket the majority of the revenue from Palestine's gas.

Do you know any country that would agree to such a thing?

This is very typical of the invaders racist contempt for its victim.

Do you know any country that would agree to such a thing?

Any country in the world that doesn't have it's own nationalised oil company. It's oil companies who pay for exploration and field developement and extraction and in return the lions share of the profit. That still leaves a tidy sum for the governments who grant the licences and collect the taxes and other revenues.
You didn't mention that Israel wants to control the contract, and pocket the majority of the revenue from Palestine's gas.

In partnership with Egypt and the Palestinian Authority. Another complication is that the Mediterranean gas fields dont sit within national borders, that's why Israeli gas fields have had to sign deals with Cyprus and Lebanon allowing for a share of the revenue. It simply wouldn't be possible for Israel to 'pocket the majority of the revenue'.

The Palestinians really could have a very bright future if they renounced terrorism and got rid of Hamas.
