parquet flooring bitumen

i\\\'m reading your comments about bitumen on old parquet flooring & the removal of same which sounds tough.
Can the bitumen be left on and the blocks glued to the floor. Is there a problem with this? as i was considering doing it this way.

Yes providing there's no loose bit and the correct glue (bitumen type) for the blocks.

why is bitumen put down in the first place?

For flexibility to allow wood expansion and also bitumen have a softening point which act as a cushion.

Ive just layed 50metres square of recycled parquet floor from a school which was being bulldozed. we started cleaning the blocks of bitumen but was then advised by a friend to only remove the really thick tar but upto 3mm thickness of tar no problem. The edges must be perfectly clean so they butt together perfectly. we then used Ruberoid Syntheprufe to lay its a cold adhesive but dries quickly and dip the block into the adhesive and then place on floor and tap into place with rubber hammer. once dry sand , seal and enjoy. hope this helps. 50m sq took 5 working days in total

what type of adhesive woul dyou recommend?

would it be wise to also use a sealant on the concrete before the adhesive is applied?
