Up in my part of the world (Beds and N Herts), we had another flurry last night and have around 4-6 inches of snow all about.

I am the only one in my team who made it in to work, and I have heard some real whoppers today. Things like "there was snow on my drive", and "my road was completely impassable" from someone whose house I drove past (their road was completely cleared!) My boss, who was very late, told me that he only came in because his partner kept on nagging him to go (at least he's honest!)

Now, I respect the honesty and strength of character of someone who rings me to say "Mind if I take the day off? Only I'd like to take my kids sledging.". If someone did that, that would definitely improve my opinion of them.

Tomorrow I'll drive to work with a shovel in the boot and stop off at their houses to ask if they want digging out!!!

Have you found your colleagues to be honest and cheerful or have they been telling porkies too?

I live on the North-East coast but work in Whitby which involves a driving over a lot of moorland, the gritting is done in two halfs by two councils as its on the Cleveland/North Yorks border.

If it snows I won't even try until around 10am, me an a collegue decided to share a lift on Monday, got to the first hill and got stuck so turned around and went home, the MD just told us to go throw snowballs at each other and dont bother coming in.....

the reason i'm at home bored witless is not because of snow, but reduced temperatures. we can not lay muck when temp's are hovering around zero.

besides, the sand is frozen!

i have yet to see a road that can not be navigated around these parts. it's pathetic. i met the scaffolder's at 7:45 am no prob's on any of the roads, just a bit slippy on the back streets.

I am waiting at home ready to go to a meeting and I'm bored!
Anyway, it will be a lot colder in the French Alps next week when I go skiing! SNOW GLORIOUS SNOW

But another log on the fire and close that door behind you!!

Funny thing is, I'm all set up to work from home but they don't let me!

Cortina, I wish I had a boss who gave instruction to throw snowballs!

I think in summertime I'll say the heat has made my tyres melt and I can't drive in until it goes below 20 degrees again.

Donkmeister - We are set up to work from home too, I know this because I am the IT Manager and set it up

One of my friends was called out about 8:30 this morning to "rescue" one of his staff who was stuck at home due to the road being "impassable due to the snow"

He asked that if the road was impassible how was he going to get to the house.

"" Because you know how to drive in these conditions ""

I suppose the honesty of admitting the member of staff was not capable of coping with the conditions was a point in his favour.

Phoned a mate this morning to see if he was out in it .Only to end up going to dig him out took 45 mins and three off us .Under the snow was 1inch of ice. 3rd time he had been stuck and it was only the back of ten.
Roads have just turned to hard pack and its the first time a lot have seen these conditions and have not got a clue how to drive in it.
Brings out the kid in me hand brake turns and all that

Love that namsag!

Was out at 5.30 to get into London. Left at 2pm. Back to Leighton Buzzard to fix a few boilers. Did all that and took the kids sledging once id done some serious rally driving through the chilterns.

I love it, and more to come!

Oh, and my sledge... lets put it like this... Its a proper plumbers sledge. Made of two bits of 22. Bent in the right places. A lot of fittings, some 4 be 1. Its the mutz nuts.

Not much snow up here; but has anyone been stuck and passed by someone in a 4x4? Finally a use for the tanks they drive. :D
