"The Democratic Unionist party has refused to back the government on several amendments to the finance bill in a move that casts grave doubt over its parliamentary alliance with the ruling Tory party.
Theresa May’s Tories do not have a majority in the House of Commons and are able to govern only thanks to a “confidence and supply” arrangement with the DUP’s 10 MPs in the aftermath of the June 2017 general election.
In return for backing the government on crucial votes — in particular the Queen’s Speech and the finance bill — the party, led by Arlene Foster, secured a substantial financial package for Northern Ireland worth an estimated £1bn
On Monday evening the DUP abstained on three parts of the bill and voted with Labour on a fourth, which urged the government to review the impact of increases to the personal tax allowance on child poverty."
