Would like to put a shaving socket into the bathroom. Do I connect it to the lighting circuit or spur it off the ring main.

I wasn't there but I was told the light momentarily went on and then there was a popping sound and all the lights upstairs went off. Will try to establish where power is using multimeter

the breaker supplying the upstairs lighting circuit worked correctly when i swapped it to supply the downstairs lighting circuit. Wiring obviously not 130 years old but suspect some of wiring upstairs in attic rooms may be old. Appreciate the help but not the sarcasm.

When an upstairs light was switched on today all of the upstairs lights went out, remainder of house OK. Have checked the breaker which has not tripped. Have swapped a breaker to see if that was the problem. Not sure what to do next. House is about 130 years old but fuse panel and wiring...
