    Decorative concrete

Brian, I've abandoned the idea after contacting a couple of suppliers and finding out that they only sell in bulk (well, in batches way bigger that I needed and was prepared to spend on) I'm leaving it rusticky for the time being

Laying a patio - is mortar a must?

Thanks to both of you. I'll try and see what it looks/feels like. At the end of the day if it appears unstable I can always lift the flags and do it properly.

Laying a patio - is mortar a must?

Most of you have probably thought - what a knobhead! However, a couple of years ago I did pave a small area in front of my shed with 2x2 concrete slabs laying them just on a bed of sand. I only needed 6 slabs but they are still level and steady, and there aren't even any weeds growing between...

    Decking over a concrete path

I meant I am not going to cover the joists with decking on the sides, if this is what you meant :? Sorry this is my first attempt at decking.

    Decking over a concrete path

Thanks Pinnacle. The drop is between 5 and 10 cm. I was actually going to leave the sides open and bring up the soil level, maybe with bark chippings or gravel.

    Decking over a concrete path

Do you mean the bolts won't hold the weight of the decking? What if I use longer bolts and 6x2 beams? Would 20x150mm screws be strong enough? Also maybe I should put a strip of wood along the centre of the path and screw the decking through it to the concrete? Thanks

    Decking over a concrete path

Is this feasible at all? Since the path is quite raised above the ground level I intend to bolt the sleepers to the sides of it rather then on top of the concrete while leaving a small gap between the concrete and the decking for drainage. The path is about one and a half foot wide.

    Connecting a built-in electric oven

Steve, I had an old type gas cooker before, hence the socket was plated. When I opened it there were three parallel contacts inside. The fused switch for this socket is marked as 45amp. I assume it's a separate cooker circuit. What I'm trying to find out is whether I can replace the old...

    Connecting a built-in electric oven

Thanks. The socket is actually about 2ft away from the oven, behind the fridge, so access wouldn't be a problem. Does it mean that the fuse in the plug will need replacing quite often because of the amp difference?

    Connecting a built-in electric oven

A daft question probably.. I'm replacing my old gas oven with a built-in electric one. It's 2.2 kW. The cooker socket I've inherited from the previous house owner is 45A, a weird shaped one. It also has a safety switch above the worktop which I was going to keep. The new oven has a 13A...
