Sorry! Just looked up difference between straight and angled valve. Mine are definitely angled valves - sorry if I misled...

There are two arrows on the valve body - one points down to the floor, the other toward the rad. Plumber came with my builder who has now decided not to use him anymore...

Hello again, I got excited then because your theory was right. The TRV's are not on the end that gets hot first and yet the arrows are pointing towards the rad. HOWEVER, they are Drayton trv 4's - does that mean that it doesn't matter which end they are on? If that's the case then I think...
