Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

yes, beginning to feel a bit sorry for him now. he seemed genuinely keen to fix the problem. but is this all part of the act ? hmmm, hard to say. i've got a [trusted] builder coming in a few weeks. i've agreed that i'll let him look at the job - and see what he thinks. i'll then give this guy...

yes, his business is home improvement. when he came around, i asked him what his company did - to which he answered everything. that should have tipped me off.

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

i had already signed in before i went to the door, so that was OK. had some communication from him today. he seems very keen to fix the problem and says he's never had an unhappy customer. he said he'll do whatever i want to fix the problem - i sent him some of the feedback from this thread...

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

lol. sadly he's the one who's run away. with my money. another thing that made me suspect this guy. he wanted to be paid immediately after the job was done. i had to stand on the door-step with my ipad while he waited for me to load up my barclays app, set him up as a new payee - reading the...

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

he's on check-a-trade, so i'm covered there. and has a 9.63% rating with many positive reviews. which makes it all the more bizarre - i wonder how many of those reviews are real though. on a local forum for my area; some people have told me the vetting process for check-a-trade is a 5 minute...

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

i would agree with you had he say, fixed a running toilet and left the job site with the toilet working and fixed as far as he was aware, and then it started running again after a few flushes. but he left the job-site looking like this (photos in first post). any tradesmen would have known this...

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

i got a response: "this is not how business works the work is fully guaranteed please send me pictures of what issues you have and they will be a rectified that is what the guarantee is for". i don't want him to come back and "rectify" the issues. he could end up doing more damage. he clearly...

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

ok, thanks for explaining. i'm really not bothered about the time to get materials. as i said, that was a minor issue (i.e. he said 20 mins, took 2.5 hours). it's all the other stuff i have a problem with.

ok noseall, can you tell me what you thought of the work done on my guttering (pictures in first post). i'd honestly be interested to know since you are a professional builder. you seem to be defending this guy; so does this mean you think his work was ok ?

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

thanks Doggit. Yes, every forum has one. yes, for a couple of hundred £, i don't think it's worth the bother of getting him to fix it or to take this further. an expensive, but valuable lesson.

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

ok, some more info which i left off, so i suppose i deserve the sarcasm he had said he'd only be 20 minutes. he had said the job would take 3 hours and it was getting on in the day. this is a minor thing in the scale of things though.

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

i don't think a traveller. his business shares his surname, so family run business by the looks of it. or maybe just him. he says all his work is guaranteed, and he does pick up his emails. so seems legit in some cases, but as you saw by the pictures, quality of work, not so much.

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

no, nothing. he's offered to come back and sort it out - but do i really want this guy back ? if he couldn't do the job properly in the first place. i don't think so.

Gutters: is this a cowboy job ?

thanks Doggit. appreciate your thoughts. ultimately, i just wanted to know if this job had been done properly. looking it, even without experience, i would say not. but i needed to hear it from those with more experience. so i really appreciate your feedback. i'll contact him. not sure i want...
