It's brick, the board has been boned with high grab adhesive

I've just fitted a new log burner stove and lined the back of the fireplace with vermiculite boarding. On advice iI used flue sealant to fill the joint gaps, after lighting the fire the joints have now cracked. Any ideas for a better solution.
