Thanks everyone for all the responses - there is a square within a square printed on the end so I think that means double insulation doesn't it? Just to cover the other points made it is mains voltage and I know I would have twigged if instructions had mentioned a missing earth connection...

Have an IKEA wall light shaped like a dressing room light with multiple bulbs. It's both attractive and effective but it does have some metal in the casing and there is no earth terminal. I can't imangine its double insulated owing to the cost. Should I drill the casing and create a terminal...
