    Replace split piece of floorboard

Thanks for your reply John. I've put in a piece of the chipboard I bought for now as that's better than nothing although I'm still not confident it will last too long as it doesn't feel as strong as the other boards. I'm not familiar with most of what you talked about, sisters, noggins...

    Replace split piece of floorboard

Hi all, A couple of days ago we noticed a considerable sag in the floor at the top of the stairs. I've pulled the carpet up and have found that a section of the floorboard has split. Picture below: I thought this would be straight forward to replace but would like to double check...

    Replacing broken window hinges?

I know it's a little late but I've only just started re-looking at this problem having never got them fixed!! I looked at the site you mentioned and ordered a pair of hinges on Monday, they came yesterday and fit perfect! Have now ordered hinges for the rest of the broken windows. Thank...

    Replacing broken window hinges?

I don't think so. I tried to fit the 18mm into the channel that the original hinges came out of and they wouldn't fit. That's when I realised they needed thinner hinges. I did consider this but not sure how to do it. Interestingly enough, I checked some of the non-broken windows and a...

    Replacing broken window hinges?

I've had one of the front little windows out again and re-measured but they are definately 15mm :( The piece that's broke in all of them is the plastic 'runner' that holds the two metal strips together. As you can see in the picture below, the two pieces circled red should actually be one...

    Replacing broken window hinges?

I'll assume that the lack of response indicates that these are non-standard hinges  I continued searching around the net but couldn't find nothing other than the 18mm channel width hinges so looks like I'm going to have to replace the windows. Anyone got any recommendations for the...

    Replacing broken window hinges?

Hi, Having recently moved into a new house only to discover that around half of the windows have broken hinges (never opened them during visits  ), I decided to try to replace them myself as it looks straightforward enough.. They are all 'broke' the same way: basically the sliding...

    Lining paper bubbling

Thanks for the tips. The bubbles were still there after the paint had dried unfortunately, so I cut them out (little strip) and filled with filler. I'm happy with the result (finally!) but lesson learned  :D

    Lining paper bubbling

Had my first attempt at putting up lining paper over the weekend and thought I had done a good job of it until tonight! Painted over it, and just on one of the seams, the paper has bubbled either side of the join for about 50cm :( 2 questions, 1: what caused this so I don't do it again. I...

    Correct screw fittings?

lol, I know what you mean. I've just purchased a Black & Decker hammer drill which has got a 'level indicator' on it, so hopefully my screws should be straight  :D

    Correct screw fittings?

Thanks. I also remember reading somewhere that you shoudl drill into the bricks at a slight downward angle to stengthen the support the screws give. Would you recommend me doing this or should I just drill them dead straight?

    Correct screw fittings?

Hi all. Looks like a good forum you've got here so hopefully I can get my newbie DIY Questions answered  I'm currently redoing my kitchen and have bought all the units from B+Q. I was going to put up a wall unit today and noticed that it didn't come with any screws to hold the brackets...
