Thanks for the speedy response Crafty. The internal transformer is semi circled as you say, and does not contribute to any part of the fitting as such, if I got a picture of the detail tomorrow would you be able to recommend me a suitable dimming transformer for the g4 bulbs with a total load...

nice idea, but could not be bothered to unwire the whole dimmer to give it bck and go thru the hassel of waiting for the replacement with no light switches to turn the lights on. it taks about a week to order in for my dimmer. Anyway I found an exact replacement from Mr resistor the module...

The actual dimmer is a 4 gang brass dimmer at £50 a pop, no need to replace the whole switch as the other 3 work fine !

I plugged a device in the 5amp sockets last night and also they did not work as they were wired to the dimmer that also turns the spots on ...so I think its defiantly the dimmer module thats knackered.
