Sounds like a problem with your gas pressure or blockage in gas pipes. Call a gas safe plumber to investigate.

Not 100% sure but I think the pressure is only rising when system is hot. So I don't think it's a split plate hex. But I'll check for sure on weekend. Thanks

no chance of access on right hand side it's up against a wall!!! left hand side is accessible though. how about flushing the h/e in situ, if I stick some system cleaner in? is it still possible to replace with no acces from right hand side of boiler? cheers

if your on about the cold feed to the cylinder gate valve, as long as it is above the height of the cylinder you only have to drain the tank and then replace valve. if u do buy a bung kit (they are brilliant) DO NOT BUNG THE VENT PIPE ON THE TANK THAT SUPPLYS THE HOT WATER/CYLINDER!!!
