Add 12V step-down to existing outside light spur

Hi All I'm helping set up a shop which is the downstairs of a terraced house (residential flat above), and the sparky installed an LED floodlight over the back door with an almost useless PIR. That spur already has an outdoor junction box by the floodlight. There's a need for some lighting in...

    Oven connection using existing cable

The only RCD is the consumer unit/fusebox (30mA) - I haven't added any other RCD devices. Is that correct? It doesn't - the consumer unit is around 3m away in the pantry, but because the other end isn't terminated into the consumer unit yet, adding an accessible isolator there will be easy...

    Oven connection using existing cable

I see. Is a 20A cooker connection plate ok? It'd be a dedicated circut from the fuse box with a 30mA breaker.

    Oven connection using existing cable

Accessing what? The cooker connection plate? Assuming the cable is 2.5mm² (I'll check it if I can find out how to!), then it should be good for 20A and my understanding is that a 20A cooker connection plate is common so I'm not sure what would cause a problem that would need accessing...

    Oven connection using existing cable

The cables are surface clipped behind the units apart from the chased-in verticals to the sockets. It's stranded and sizing is from visual only. Is there a way to test the cable? I did a basic continuity test on it which was fine. I presume that a sparky can test it(?) The manual says...

    Oven connection using existing cable

Hi I'm in the process of installing an Ikea kitchen at my mum's. I've extended the ring-main around the kitchen and everything is chased in nicely, ready for a joiner to do the worktops at the weekend. The oven is <13A but doesn't come with a plug, but it would be good to have the option...

    Kitchen sockets

Brilliant - thanks, this fills in the blanks that I was missing. So I can do the kitchen circuit as I was expecting, except I need to connect the far end of it back to the ring-main and break the ring so as to avoid creating a figure-8 circuit which I believe would be non-compliant due to...

    Kitchen sockets

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm a bit confused! First, I wasn't clear why I want to re-use the immersion heater cable from the fuse-box to the old FCU - that cable is chased in through the dining room and under the upstairs floor over to the fuse box, so re-using that existing cable would...

    Kitchen sockets

My understanding is that I can do the work myself, except for #1 because that's installation of a new circuit and so needs to be done by someone who is certified as MTC: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/294483/3rd_Party_Cert_Scheme_MTC.pdf...

    Kitchen sockets

I'll do whatever I can legally/safely. I'd get someone in to connect up to the fuse box though.

    Kitchen sockets

Hi All I'm putting a new kitchen in at my mum's house and have a couple of electrics questions: 1. There is an old unused FCU for an immersion heater that must have been removed when the combi boiler was installed. The wire looks like maybe 2.5mm² or 4mm² and has one leg that goes upstairs...
