    Bumping this as i need some possible suggestions for causing EMI in a house if the electrics are off. just need to go over things before i finaly give Ofcom a call, they charge if the problem is inside you premises :(

    It's cable broadband but the tv is normal analogue aerial. I've disconnected the cable from the modem and even from the wall socket but no luck. What exactly would cause EMI in a house? can wiring running too close to pipes cause this?

    Well i have two monitors(One crt and tft) the problem shows on both of these quite badly. When i first noticed the problem it was showing at 75hz, i droped the refresh to 60hz and it disappeared(at this time it wasnt showing on the tv)now even with the refresh at 60hz i can see it and at 75hz...

    I have taken the pc to my sisters and it's fine, the tv is'nt going anywhere though as it's a 32"w/s that weighs the same as a small country :D

    Thanks for the suggestions fubar but as i've stated in previous posts even with the pc turned off(and everything connected to it) i still see the interference on the downstairs tv

    To securespark: Nope, not that i know of, this has been going on since they installed the wiring which was about 18months ago, it's steadily getting worse too.

    Ok i have turned all the lecky off and fed my comp from next doors with an extension. Still get interference!! bare in mind all our street was done by the same guys who did my house, could substandard wiring or the way they have routed it cause this? they would have wired all the houses the same...

    Well i used an extension cable to power the pc from the downstairs sockets while turning off the upstairs. literally everything had been shut off except the sockets being used by the pc be it upstairs or down and still the interference. Only thing i haven't tried is shuting the power off...

    It's on 24/7, So it cant be naff wiring or fuses? no offence to sparks of the world but the guys who put the wiring in were a bunch of monkeys, they damaged the walls and ruined floorboards putting it all in, half the sockets in the house aint straight!! I despair. :evil:

    Way ahead of you Breezer, it aint the pc as it is crystal clear at my sisters house. Just wish i could roughly find were it's coming from, someone said use a shortwave radio and walk around the house looking for signal noise, good idea? Failing that i think i'll take a pic of the junction...

    Not that i know of but i can check quite easily, everyone on our road had the wiring/heating done at the same time. Damocles, the cable went in before everything else was done so it could be, but i dont honestly remember and interfearence at the time. Is thsi some thing that can get worse...

    Ok so i have some sort of interfearence but cant work out whats causing it, what are my options? could any sort of bad/cheap wiring cause this? something not earthed properly? I'd like to say thanks anyway bignairy for all your replies, very apreciated :)
