    12v vs 240v downlights

Don't fall into the trap of thinking low voltage is the same as low energy - a 50W lamp uses 50W of power whatever the voltage. Personally I'd go 230v every time - less to go wrong.

    Show pump connection

I'm installing a shower pump in my airing cupboard on the landing. At the moment there's a switched FCU for an immersion heater (though no immersion is fitted) on a dedicated 2.5T&E radial running back to a 16A MCB on the CU. Is it acceptable to spur off that with 2.5T&E to another switched FCU...

    Replacing fascias on flat roof

masona - sorry, what I meant was would a roofer remove the flashings, fit new fascias and replace the flashings, or would I have to get a different trade to fit the fascias?

    Replacing fascias on flat roof

I meant the whole roof - didn't realise just the flashings could be done - clueless with roofs, hence the question! So, basically the flashings round the edge can be taken off, fascias replaced and new flashings put back to the original covering? Would most roofers do the whole job?

    Replacing fascias on flat roof

thanks, I feared as much. What am looking at for a roof that size (just the felting)? £2k or so?

    Replacing fascias on flat roof

Tell me if this is a stupid question (I'm sure someone will!) but is it possible to replace the fascia boards around a flat roof without re-roofing? I have a flat extension roof, 3.5m x 4m with fascias on three sides. The roof is about 7 years old and very sound, no sign of problems at all, but...

    aqualisa quartz

The installation guide for aqualisa quartz digital pumped specifies copper for inlet and output pipework. Inlet pipework is already speedfit (whole bathroom is). Any reason why outlet side can't be speedfit? Max temp and pressure are well in range. Anyone installed one that way?

    old cable colours

The ebay suggestion was a good one. A quick search showed that 100m old colour 2.5 T&E has gone for as much as £170 recently ... you're sitting on a gold mine. looky here...

    bathroom extractor fan

    Thanks, that's what I thought.

    bathroom extractor fan

I want a bathroom ceiling extractor fan added. The plan is this: inlet grill above shower, 2m ducting running to an inline fan mounted above a bedroom, then 1m duct to an eaves outlet. All wiring would be in the loft; live, neutral, earth and switched live taken from the bathroom light junction...

    Combi capacity

Thanks Dave - last question - the existing flue isn't in a chimney, it looks like an asbestos pipe about 6" diameter with a couple of right-left 45 degree turns to line it up with the roof. Is balanced operation possible through such setups?

    Combi capacity

Thanks all. The current h/w cylinder is good - under a year old - but the issues I need to address are low hw pressure in the bathroom (only 2m head, which is severely restricting her indoor's choice of taps for a refit) and an ancient boiler ( potterton floorstander, c. early '80's). Bear...

    Combi capacity

I'm comtemplating a combi boiler, but my only experience of them was hopeless hot water flow - but I'm going back a few years! Question is this - can a modern combi successfully service a 5 bed house, (2300 sq ft.) with 15 rads, two baths & a pumped shower? Thanks in advance.
