    Underfloor heating wiring

Hi, Just a quick question, I have carbon underfloor heating installed and the electrician is in today to connect the thermostats. Unfortunately I can't get hold of the floor fitter and need to know which way around the cables are and if the polarity matters or not. I've got a blue cable, a...

    Wood floor in bathroom

Tiling is an option, but it's a big room (ceiling height 25ft) so was looking for a warmer more natural floor. I've seen wooden floors in bathrooms so I'm pretty sure it's possible...

    Wood floor in bathroom

Hi, I am flooring a bathroom and would like to have a wooden, engineered or laminate floor. I know there are 'moisture resistant' laminates but are they really necessary or just a marketing trick? Obviously, I would want the best finish possible so if i can use a decent engineered wood...

Yellow stain coming through newly painted wall/ceiling

I used the zinsser bullseye. Seems to have worked, but like you say may need a few coats to cover the sheen it gives. Can you apply it directly to new plaster?

    bathroom floor - which ply?

thanks that's all very helpful, will check the sticky too. The floor is mosaic tile direct onto concrete (possibly original floor over 100 years old) The walls aren't in great condition, plaster is ok but has old lead paint which is a nightmare to get off. The reason I'm paying a tiler is...

    bathroom floor - which ply?

Thanks for the advice. I am building the platform but will pay a tiler to do the tiling, as there is too much to go wrong otherwise. The tiles will probably be a (fairly cheap) ceramic or porcelain tile (not stone). The raised platform is for the shower and toilet (its the only way of getting...

Yellow stain coming through newly painted wall/ceiling

There's no leaks, but there is a chance that the building is quite damp as it has had no heating for 12 years. May be a case of moving in and redecorating again in a year once the building has dried out.

    bathroom floor - which ply?

Thanks for the quick reply. wbp would save me a lot of time and money, as long as it is moisture resistant enough. will it need treating? if so, obviously i need to treat it with something that doesnt affect the tile adhesive.

    bathroom floor - which ply?

Hi, I am building a raised platform in a bathroom which will then be tiled. Was thinking of using 18mm marine ply. Just wanted to check if this was either a) overkill, b) not enough or c) just about right. Thanks for any help/advice you can give. The supporting joists will be 300mm apart...

Yellow stain coming through newly painted wall/ceiling

Hi, I have recently painted a room (wall and ceiling) in white emulsion. The paint looks perfect, but after a day or two, yellow stains start to come through where there was an old partition and on the joins where the wall has been replastered. It doesn't matter how many coats i use, as it...

Parquet floor results - advice needed

Haha yeah the pictures don't give you a great idea what they look like. It looks smart with the oil on, just a bit gloomy and orange like a school dinner hall rather than a gym (which is what it's going to be).

Parquet floor results - advice needed

Ok. Is there a way around it? Using lye on the wood or sealing with pu rather than hard wax oil? Or will it just always turn orange because it's pine? Or do I just live with it? It's a fairly large area so it's a lot of floor to look at every day if I don't like it. It is a stunning floor and...
