    SWA and RCD protection

The gate is in a frame, one side of which is attached to the house, the other side is attached to the garage. There is a piece of wood that forms the top of the frame and the SWA is run across the top of this, attached by screwing cleats to the frame.

    SWA and RCD protection

Thanks for the offer but it's all done and signed off :D (I'm in watford btw), I just wanted to check if I was right or if I'd missed something. That's what I thought, wasn't worth more than a quick attempt at explaining my understanding of it, especially when £40 for an RCBO and switch gets...

    SWA and RCD protection

I've just had the final inspection for my DIY rewire and everything passed except for the supply to the garage... I'd installed an MCB in the non-RCD protected section of consumer unit. This connected to a 6mm T&E and a separate 10mm earth which then travelled on a cable tray under the floor...

    LED's AC trany

Thanks, that makes sense, just checked a couple of data sheets and 5V seems to be the norm.

    LED's AC trany

Yes, that's right, diode can go on either output of the transformer and resistors can go either side of the LED's. Then just wire up the resistor/LED pairs in parallel.

    LED's AC trany

Is it worth bothering with the diode? The LED is one already.

    domestic electrical installation

I don't know about any of the other suppliers but if you're with British Gas, call the MAST team on 0800 3161779. They installed an isolator switch for me for £30.76 which seems like a bargain to me.

help!!! bare wires sticking out of skirting board.....

Because the frequencies are 3 orders of magnitude higher where you run into all sorts of problems with attenuation, reflections and the harmonics generated by trying to output a square wave edited to fix broken quote

    What counts as clipped direct?

I'm assuming (possibly incorrectly) from the title that it's a guide to the building regulations as found here: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/wales/professionals/buildingregs/ which is where I've been doing my reading Taxes? Personally I'm of the opinion that if we're required by...

    What counts as clipped direct?

Probably not exhaustively but I think I've got most of the important stuff covered, though as I'm only re-wiring a 1930's semi I believe a lot of it isn't relevant: A: Chases, recesses and the like: got it covered B: I'm adding mains powered smoke alarms, not doing anything that could effect...

    What counts as clipped direct?

Cheers, that's a damn good point, I guess I'm not seeing the wood for the trees worrying about whether it counts as clipped direct when I could just pretend it's packed in insulation and it's still good enough.

    What counts as clipped direct?

I don't have this but I've read the regulations themselves and they don't seem to cover it This one I have read but it doesn't seem to cover whether the "clipped" part of "clipped direct" actually means the cables need to be clipped to something. In fact as far as I can tell it never...

    What counts as clipped direct?

Thanks, there aren't going to be many circuits under the ground floor (2 rings, 1 cooker) and the cables will almost never be together so the trays are sounding like overkill but I think the brackets could work well.

    What counts as clipped direct?

Hi Everyone, I'm planning on doing a DIY re-wire of the house I've just bought. I'm working though the finer details of where and how the cables are going to be run and I've got a couple of questions: Do cables run under the first floor floorboards that are laying on the ground floor...
